CarbonNeutral® Estate Agency
Nash Partnership have once again taken steps to lead the property industry, this time by becoming the country’s very first CarbonNeutral® estate agency.
Daniel Nash from Nash Partnership explains "Global warming is a fact. Sceptics out there need only to take a look outside at some of the extreme weather we’ve been experiencing lately. Whether it’s the terrible floods in Hull, or the record temperatures in the States, climate change is here and we believe it is time we all stop burying our heads in the sand."
"As a firm, we believe we have a responsibility to act now to reduce our total environmental impact. Make no mistake, this is not about ‘pretending‘ to do something just to give us a nice warm and fuzzy feeling - Nash Partnership is making a real and committed effort to make a positive difference," says Daniel.
So what are Nash Partnership doing? "Clearly we cannot perform miracles overnight," says Daniel. "Instead we are viewing the task of reducing our environmental impact as a journey, made up by a series of milestones."
Nash Partnership asked The CarbonNeutral Company, widely recognised as leaders in the field, to help them assess and understand the CO2 implications of the company.
"With their help, we looked at the CO2 emissions we generate as a business, to understand exactly where they come from. From our buildings’ energy consumption, to travelling to and from appointments, and our waste generation. Then we put together an action plan on how we can improve our energy efficiency and looked for more innovative ways of reducing energy use where possible. One such innovation for example, is our commitment to switch to 100% renewable energy at all our office locations by the end of 2008," Daniel continues.
"But of course, despite all our best efforts, there will remain certain ‘unavoidable emissions’. So these have been neutralised, or offset, by Nash Partnership’s supporting renewable energy projects around the globe. In other words, for every 1 tonne of ‘unavoidable CO2’ produced by our business, Nash Partnership will pay for projects that save at least 1 tonne of CO2 somewhere in the world."
Daniel says "we are proud to be in a position to be able to help raise awareness of global environmental issues and are committed to leading by example. Furthermore we believe that cutting our own emissions, for example through energy efficiency, makes sound financial sense for our business.
Our long-term aim is to encourage other local businesses to think about the environmental impact they have and to do something positive about it. After all, why should there be any conflict between addressing climate change and good business practice?"
Jonathan Shopley, Executive Director of The CarbonNeutral Company, says: "It is great to see a local estate agency taking this issue seriously and working hard to achieve CarbonNeutral status
We hope Nash Partnership’s stance will encourage other estate agencies to follow suit and reduce their carbon emissions."
